While the creative writing course at the introductory level exposes students to a variety of sub-genres, this upper-levelled creative writing course pushes students to specialize in selective genres of creative-writing. Throughout this course, students will use rhetorical and literary techniques to create, write, and self-edit various short stories, to be compiled into individual creative writing portfolios. A major part of this course will be dedicated to writing about the Self. Students will engage with powerful and personal writing prompts to help them better explore their own narratives, develop a stronger understanding of the society they live in, and establish their own place in this modern world, culminating in a series of self-published pieces to be compiled into a creative writing portfolio. Such writing pieces may later be used for writing competitions, college applications, or supplemental essays.
